Specialised training course in Choral Conducting
Conservatory of music “Arrigo Pedrollo” , Vicenza
A further mutual learning activity was organised by Prof. Ezio Spinoccia from 25 to 28 May 2026 at the Conservatorio di Musica “Arrigo Pedrollo” in Vicenza and involved Jamis Freij and Nadine Shaheen, lecturers at the Magnificat Institute of Jerusalem. The specialised training course in Choral Conducting consisted of four days of intensive activities combining theoretical instruction, practical exercises and direct work with the choir I Cantori del Pedrollo.
The programme addressed the fundamental principles of conducting technique, including beat patterns, cues, cut-offs, fermatas, dynamic and agogic indications, ensemble coordination and score analysis. Participants also received training in rehearsal planning and management, preparation of entries, collective breathing, phrasing construction, error correction, balance among choir sections and musical interpretation. Practical sessions included conducting exercises with piano accompaniment, teaching rehearsals and direct interaction with preparatory vocal groups. The course enabled participants to acquire the fundamental skills required for choral conducting and strengthened their capacity to apply conducting techniques in educational and performance settings.
