Giulia Barbero

Giulia Barbero is a freelance conservator-restorer specializing in books, archival materials, and works of art on paper. She graduated and obtained her professional qualification from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where in 2013 she carried out a project at the restoration laboratory of the Vatican Apostolic Library.

Since 2016, she has lived and worked in Venice, collaborating with some of the city's leading institutions. Since 2023, she has combined her professional practice with specialized teaching, lecturing in courses on the conservation and restoration of books and archival materials at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and Ca' Foscari University of Venice.

As part of the Jerus Project, she independently carried out a conservation treatment on musical manuscript (Ms. It. Cl. IX, 145) from the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, which involved the recovery of numerous original elements of the binding. At the same time, together with the Jerus teaching team, she organized educational visits for students in Venice, presenting the restoration work and enriching the program through visits to other major institutions in the city. These activities provided an opportunity to explore issues and strategies related to the conservation of library heritage, with particular attention to the display of paper-based materials at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and the analysis of further restoration interventions on musical manuscripts at the Museo Correr.
