Massimo Negri
Massimo Negri is a museum studies and cultural heritage expert with extensive international experience in museum development, research, and cultural networking. Within the JERUS-IT-ARTS project, he served as author and researcher for two major publications developed in the framework of the initiative: Museology and Museography of Musical Instruments, co-authored with Laura Diamanti and edited by Andrea Zanella and OMUCI, and OO Osservatorio Musei Cinesi. Documento di Progetto e Primo Report: le collezioni musicali nei musei cinesi. His work focused on the study of musical instrument collections, museum practices, and international comparative research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and dialogue between European and Chinese museum institutions in the field of musical heritage.
European Museum Forum Director from 2000 to 2009 and member of the Jury of the European Museum of the Year Award and the Council of Europe Museum Prize from 1983 to 2009. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Great Museum of the Cathedral (Museo del Duomo) of Milan. Formerly Scientific Director of the Genus Bononiae museums network of the town of Bologna (Italy). He served also as member of the Board of the National Museum of Science and Technology “Leonardo da Vinci” in Milan and the Board of the Digital European Library, later “Europeana”. And was invited to participate into the preparatory work for the Diocesean Museum and the Museum of Design both in Milan.
Twice Fulbrighter at the Pennsylvania State University and at the Smithsonian Institution. Founder of the Executive Master Course in European Museology, IULM University, Milan (from 2009) which was developed into “Museology, New Media and Museum Communication” and he is also the Scientific Director of the new edition of the same course now under the title “Contemporary Museology and Museum Communication”. Professor of Museology at the State University of Padua (2003-2020). He also taught museology at the European Institute of Design in Venice. Currently he is teaching at the Academy of Fine Art Brera “Comunicazione Espositiva”, in December 2024 taught museology and museography at Xi’an North West University of China. He is also consultant of International Foundazione Forum of Slavic Cultures Ljubliana (Slovenia) and lecturer at the International Summer School of Museology in Koper (Slovenia).
Independent temporary exhibition specialist and an active lecturer on industrial archaeology, more than 150 publications in this field as well as on museological matters in general. As a consultant to the Municipality of Milan for exhibition programming and museum innovation from 1993 to 1997 , he took part into the start up stage of various important projects, like the renovation of Palazzo Reale, the restyling of the Museum of Milan and the Museum of Contemporary History, etc. he has directed several museums project such as the Casa De Gasperi Museum, the plan for the restyling of the Museum of Water in Lisbon, the Museum of the History of Bologna, the Museum of Music in Pieve di Cento, the Museums of Prints in Pieve Tesino. As a Member of the Scientific Committee he has also followed the planning of the Museum of Industry and Labour network in Brescia. He is member of the group winning the Oslo Forum Artis international context. More recently he has designed the storyboard for the new “Museum of Sea” of the Municipality of Trieste (Italy).
He has also curated many temporary exhibitions on various subjects , mainly about modern and social history and industrial heritage, and contributed to various European Union Project (BRICKS, LEM, VoCH and others) .
In 1993 awarded the Orden of Isabela la Catolica by the King of Spain.
