Maria Chiara Palandri

is a senior Book and Paper Conservator. She graduated from the Istituto per la Patologia del Libro “Alfonso Gallo” (ICPL) in Rome. Since 1999, she has worked in the Conservation Department of the National Library of Norway, where she also became a research fellow in 2024.

In 2004, she began teaching Conservation and Restoration of parchment and paper-based materials at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan. In 2015, she was appointed Professor of Conservation of Cultural Heritage and became coordinator of the Paper, Books, Photographs, Film, and Digital Media Department at the Brera Conservation School. She is a member of the Doctoral Committee (PhD) in “Tecniche e strumenti per lo studio, la produzione, la conservazione e la valorizzazione dei beni culturali” at the Academy of Brera.

Maria Chiara Palandri is the author of numerous articles and actively participates in international research projects on conservation and the history of techniques and materials. These include NANORESTART, LitCit, ECHOES, IArtNET, the Color Studies working group (CHSTM), and NorCol.

She is a member of several professional organizations, a Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation (IIC), and currently serves as Vice-President of the International Association of Book and Paper Conservators (IADA), contributing to the organization of international conferences.
