Since 1987 Cantar di Pietre has curated an annual concert and cultural series dedicated to medieval and Renaissance music throughout Italian-speaking Switzerland. By programming chant, troubadour song and early polyphony in the Romanesque churches and historic monuments for which they were conceived—from San Pietro in Biasca to the Visconti Castle in Locarno—the festival reconnects repertoire, acoustics and architecture, encouraging audiences to experience music as a living part of regional heritage.

Cantar di Pietre distinguishes itself from conventional touring programmes through its emphasis on site-specific artistry, educational outreach and cultural decentralisation. Over the years it has hosted leading early-music ensembles and folk traditions from across Europe, while pairing concerts with workshops, lectures, exhibitions and guided visits that deepen civic as well as artistic engagement with Ticino’s medieval landscape.
