The Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado, as part of the JERUS-IT-ARTS Festival retracing the artistic dialogue between Italy and Jerusalem from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, will present three free-admission concerts in Milan in February and March.
The Gregorian chant concert In cruce vita, directed by Giovanni Conti and taking place on 22 February at the Basilica di San Satiro, features the Ensemble More Antiquo, one of the most highly regarded international ensembles specialising in Gregorian chant. The group represents the meticulous work of professional musicians who combine vocal expertise with advanced research into liturgical traditions and ancient Western Christian monody.
The following day, 23 February, at the Auditorium Lattuada, the focus shifts to contemporary music in Musica contemporanea tra Occidente e Oriente. The programme brings contemporary Palestinian art music into dialogue with works by twentieth-century and living Italian composers, creating a listening space in which musical writing becomes a means of historical, political and existential inquiry, sustained by a constant tension between memory, identity and the search for new languages.
The final concert of the Festival, on 29 March, Cantantibus Organis – organ, voices and instruments 800 years after the death of Saint Francis, founder of the Custody of the Holy Land, will take place again at San Satiro. It is curated by laReverdie, the renowned medieval music ensemble, with the participation of Christophe Deslignes and Walter Chinaglia.
All concerts are free of charge, subject to availability.
