The masterclass led by Tamer Al-Sahouri invites students and faculty to engage with the richness of Arabic music through an exploration of scales (maqāmāt), rhythms (īqāʿāt) and the art of improvisation (taqsīm). The session will also discuss the historical and social role of music in the Arab world and examine its connections and cross-cultural exchanges with Western traditions.

Tamer Al-Sahouri is a Palestinian musician and composer. Born in Bethlehem in 1987, he is Academic Director of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music – Birzeit University and Head of the Arabic Music Department, where he teaches oud. He has taken part in masterclasses and workshops with leading oud players internationally and has performed at festivals across Europe, Africa, the United States, South America and the Middle East. Since 2021, he has served as Artistic Director of the Palestinian Arabic Orchestra, founded by the ESNCM.
