The seminar will examine the liturgical-musical book as a historical, liturgical, and musical source from the Middle Ages through the early modern and contemporary periods. Focusing in particular on the manuscript holdings of the General Library of the Custody of the Holy Land in Jerusalem, it will first survey the main book typologies, outlining their characteristics and evolution over time. It will then address, more specifically, the interpretation of notations from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century, issues of chant performance practice, and the transformations of the Franciscan repertoire in the early modern era.
SEMINAR OPEN TO ALL
and available both in person and online.
