Exhibition - In the Sign of the Franciscans
Library of the Conservatorio di Musica “G.B. Martini”, Bologna
The exhibition has been extended until 31 May.
In the Sign of the Franciscans presents an in-depth journey into the role of the book—both textual and musical—within Bologna’s Franciscan tradition from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century, bringing into dialogue library, musical, and documentary sources preserved in the city’s historical collections.
Both physical and digital, the exhibition explores the book as a tool for study, knowledge transmission, liturgical practice, and musical production, highlighting the complexity of Franciscan cultural networks linking Bologna, Italy, and the broader Mediterranean—fully aligned with the international scope of the Jerus-It-Arts – Between Italy and Jerusalem project.
Alongside the exhibition route, the programme includes an educational and interactive section and a seminar (2 February 2026) with national scholars, hosted in the Biblioteca’s Sala Gaspari.
In collaboration with: Comune di Bologna; Biblioteca dell’Archiginnasio; Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna; Museo internazionale e Biblioteca della musica.
With the patronage of: IBIMUS; AIB Emilia-Romagna; IAML Italia; Intervolumina ETS.
This initiative takes place within the PNRR project “Between Italy and Jerusalem: retracing music and arts networks, enhancing education and promoting cultural heritage preservation,” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
