Workshop: Leather and Parchment from the Science Perspective

The workshop "Leather and Parchment from the Science Perspective," organized as part of the JERUS project, explored the scientific aspects of leather and parchment, materials historically used for bookbinding, with particular attention to their structure, chemical composition, and the main degradation processes. Through lectures and hands-on laboratory activities, participants acquired skills in identifying different types of leather, assessing the state of collagen conservation, and using analytical techniques to study the materials. Led by visiting professor and researcher Laurianne Robinet (Research Center for Conservation, Paris), the workshop took place at the Arcore School of Restoration on May 27 and 28, 2026, and was open to third-, fourth-, and fifth-year students and doctoral students.
