- [Online Course in Musical Dramaturgy](https://jerusitarts.eu/event/online-course-in-musical-dramaturgy/): From 1 April to 30 May 2026, a series of online lessons was delivered by Prof. Ezio Francesco Maria Spinoccia. The programme, organised through twice-weekly meetings, was designed to complete the students’ literary, poetic and dramaturgical training and consisted of a 30-hour course in Musical Dramaturgy together with two complementary courses entitled Analysis of Poetic Forms I and Analysis of Poetic Forms II. The Musical Dramaturgy course provided a comprehensive introduction to Verdian dramaturgy and to the structures of nineteenth-century Italian melodrama, focusing in particular on Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi. Through the study of the relationship between Antonio García Gutiérrez’s play and the libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, the student developed critical tools for the analysis of operatic dramaturgy, narrative structures, character construction and the interaction between literary and musical language. The course also introduced key theoretical contributions on musical dramaturgy and opera studies through a specialised bibliography dedicated to Verdi’s work and to the dramaturgical structures of melodrama.

IX. 145), despite its very small size (100 × 166 mm), is a highly precious witness of fundamental importance for reconstructing the polyphonic forms used within a religious community in the first half of the fifteenth century. We are indebted to Giulio Cattin for his landmark study, carried out many years ago (Il manoscritto veneto marciano Ital. 9. 145, Biblioteca del Quadrivium, serie musicologica, 3, Bologna 1962), which brought this “little parchment codex” back to the attention of the scholarly community, providing a careful description and catalogue and advancing hypotheses regarding dating and context. Based on the current state of research, the presence of numerous Franciscan elements supports the hypothesis—advanced and substantiated by several scholars—that the manuscript as a whole was compiled for a Convent of Friars Minor, probably in Venice, for private use and for religious offices. It consists of two codicological units—clearly distinct in contents, form and presentation—which were at some point assembled into a single anthology.

The choreography kindles like a collective breath that becomes gesture, encounter and community. Bodies move through an interlacing of actions that tell of life’s strength and steadfast beauty—especially in the face of shadow. Born of dialogue between different traditions, the music seeks the deep roots linking our culture to that of the Middle East, finding them in the folk music of southern Italy, where melismas, the flavour of the maqām in melodic motion and improvisation flow naturally into the sonorities and tunes of the oud, brought on stage by Tamer Al-Sahouri, Director of the Edward Said Conservatory, together with his student Yazan Fares. Spoken voices, in Italian and Arabic, weave overlaps and echoes to make this homage to life—resilient and renewing—resound.

Born in Bethlehem in 1987, he is Academic Director of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music – Birzeit University and Head of the Arabic Music Department, where he teaches oud. He has taken part in masterclasses and workshops with leading oud players internationally and has performed at festivals across Europe, Africa, the United States, South America and the Middle East. Since 2021, he has served as Artistic Director of the Palestinian Arabic Orchestra, founded by the ESNCM.

Founded in 1862 to train musicians for the Civic Band and choristers for Teatro alla Scala, the School has since become a cornerstone of Milan’s musical and educational scene. Today, it is part of Fondazione Milano Scuole Civiche, a leading higher education institution supported by the City of Milan. With its five specialized departments—Early Music, Classical Music, Musical Research (IRMus), Civic Choirs, and Jazz Courses—plus the Music Education Center (CEM), the School offers one of the most comprehensive music training experiences in Europe. In 2022, it launched the Popular Music Composition course, a groundbreaking program unique in the European academic landscape. The School offers various professional, technical, introductory and amateur programs of study from pre-school level to post-graduate courses. UNIMORE has a longstanding tradition (the first Studium was established in 1175) and is very well evaluated among the Italian universities for teaching and research. UNIMORE comprises 13 Departments, offering a wide range of degree programmes at the undergraduate level, right up to doctoral studies, from the humanities and social sciences to engineering and technology, and from physical and natural sciences to medicine and life sciences. The DHMoRe promotes and coordinates interdisciplinary studies and research in the field of Digital Humanities, acting as a leading partner for public and private research entities to implement projects at national and international levels, encourages the start-up of cultural and creative enterprises and has an open and constant dialogue with the UNIMORE PhD programs.

- [VIM - the immaterial suitcase](https://jerusitarts.eu/exhibition/vim-the-immaterial-suitcase/): VIM (la valigia immateriale-the immaterial suitcase) is a web app developed within the JERUS-IT-ARTS project by the Brera Academy of Fine Arts to collect field data forms directly from a smartphone. Users install it on their device's home screen (via Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android), log in with project-issued credentials, and fill in multilingual forms (Italian, English, and Arabic are available) even with an unstable connection. The app lets users attach media such as audio, video, photos, or existing files, and save drafts to resume later. Submissions are queued offline and synchronised automatically as soon as connectivity is restored. The site also offers setup guidance, reference screenshots, and a pre-fieldwork checklist to ensure login, microphone, camera, and storage all work before heading out.

A city made of everyday gestures, voices, and human relationships, removed from the exclusive narrative of war images. Face of the City interweaves archival photographs, testimonies of residents, and sound fragments, superimposing different temporal planes to crystallize the identity of places before destruction erases it. The images merge into a single visual architecture, allowing the viewer to navigate time and space.

Art & Design for Gaza](https://jerusitarts.eu/exhibition/butterfly-effect-art-design-for-gaza/): approach rejects ideological opposition or conflicting positions: art and design become spaces for storytelling and intimate reflection, in which works, objects, small gestures, and everyday traces contribute to the construction of a personal dimension attentive to the condition, expression, and testimony of the Palestinian people. The exhibition space presents itself as a place where visitors come into contact with the corporeal dimension of daily life in a human context in difficulty. Art, design, and poetry are presented as spaces of resistance and resilience—sparks of rebirth that underscore the possibility, even for small material and immaterial things, to change the world and leave an indelible mark, celebrating life despite the awareness of pain.

Maria, 20, was born in Babrujsk, Belarus. Last year, she spent a period in Vicenza studying vocal chamber music at the Conservatorio di Musica “Arrigo Pedrollo.” «Music has been a big part of my life since childhood—it makes me feel happy and alive,» she told us in one of the interviews featured in this video. Speaking about her move to Italy, Maria added, «Honestly, it felt like a dream to study abroad. For me, Italy isn’t just another country; it’s the birthplace of music and the art of singing.» The first weeks in Vicenza were challenging: new language, new culture. «But the conservatory community—students, teachers, even the office staff—were so welcoming. Their warmth helped me feel at home within a month.» As for her ambitions: «I want to complete my bachelor’s and master’s degrees and eventually teach, because I love working with children. I also have a small dream of conducting a choir. In general, I’d like to join international vocal projects and perform both around Europe and back in my home country.»

Programme: Choreography, concept, dramaturgy: Sara De Santis Visual artist: Emanuel Andel Music: composed by Claudio Capponi, performed live by Claudio Capponi (electric violin and live electronics) and Yazan Mamoun Salim Fares (Oud) Dance: Students of the 2nd Year of the Contemporary Bachelor's Programme C, Accademia Nazionale di Danza Tutor for incoming artists and musical coordinator of the project: Renata Russo This creation embraced the goals of the JERUS-IT-ARTS project. “Staticità in movimento” is indeed the result of an encounter between artists from different traditions and cultures. It explores the fusion of dance, visual arts, multimedia, and music. As bodies interact with video projections and sound, moving across different eras and styles — from classical to contemporary — a traditional Palestinian instrument, the oud, merges with Western electronic music, giving rise to a multidisciplinary production in which artistic language serves as the ultimate space for dialogue. Resid'AND is a project by the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, created with the aim of bringing important figures from the contemporary independent dance scene into contact with the institution's students. Sara De Santis is a choreographer, performer, and teacher. Her research moves between body, memory, and technology, spanning contemporary dance, digital arts, and site-specific performance.

The JERUS-IT-ARTS Contest invited the creation of artistic and performative works that reflect, interpret, or make visible the historical and contemporary connections between Italy and Jerusalem and, more broadly, across the Mediterranean. Andrea Strizzi's "Toccare il suono - Impronte sonore" is the selected project in the "Video Performance" section of the contest.

The call for artworks resulted in the selection of 4 contributions that foster intercultural dialogue, recognise and value diversity, and generate compelling artistic narratives across music, dance, and visual media. The contest’s participants were celebrated in a dedicated online event on 8 April 2026.
