“Will music save the world? It’s a wonderful utopia! It is certainly a universal language that needs no translation.

A subtle language that also brings with it education and learning.” With these words of Riccardo Tamai, professor at the Arrigo Pedrollo Conservatory of Music in Vicenza, we present this video on the role of music and its language in the JERUS-IT-ARTS project.

Words from Stefano Lorenzetti (co-coordinator of the JERUS-IT-ARTS project and director of the Arrigo Pedrollo Conservatory of Music in Vicenza), Claudia Caffagni (professor at the Claudio Abbado Civic School of Music), Donatella Pieri (professor at the G. B. Martini Conservatory of Bologna), and Enzo Francesco Maria Spinoccia (Arrigo Pedrollo Conservatory of Music) are included.

The music is from “Percorsi dell’anima” by Lucia D’Anna (cello) and David Peroni (piano).

Recording of the performance "Staticità in movimento (Tra Scultura e Luce)" by Sara De Santis at Teatro Ruskaja in Rome, performed on 27 September 2025 as part of the Resid'AND 2024-25 programme of the Accademia Nazionale di Danza (AND). Programme: Choreography, concept, dramaturgy: Sara De Santis Visual artist: Emanuel Andel Music: composed by Claudio Capponi, performed live by Claudio Capponi (electric violin and live electronics) and Yazan Mamoun Salim Fares (Oud) Dance: Students of the 2nd Year of the Contemporary Bachelor's Programme C, Accademia Nazionale di Danza Tutor for incoming artists and musical coordinator of the project: Renata Russo This creation embraced the goals of the JERUS-IT-ARTS project. “Staticità in movimento” is indeed the result of an encounter between artists from different traditions and cultures. It explores the fusion of dance, visual arts, multimedia, and music. As bodies interact with video projections and sound, moving across different eras and styles — from classical to contemporary — a traditional Palestinian instrument, the oud, merges with Western electronic music, giving rise to a multidisciplinary production in which artistic language serves as the ultimate space for dialogue. Resid'AND is a project by the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, created with the aim of bringing important figures from the contemporary independent dance scene into contact with the institution's students. Sara De Santis is a choreographer, performer, and teacher. Her research moves between body, memory, and technology, spanning contemporary dance, digital arts, and site-specific performance.

The concert by Palestinian artists Ramzi Shomali (pianist) and Jamil Freij (tenor), after a short introduction by JERUS-IT-ARTS coordinator Maria Chiara Rioli, follows this program:

🔹 W. Gibran - She is Light Inspired by the poetry of Kahlil Gibran, which establishes a luminous and contemplative atmosphere in a contemporary language.

🔹 G. Fauré - En prière The voice becomes an intimate prayer, inviting the listener into a space of silent devotion.

🔹 V. Bellini - Ma rendi pur contento A tender expression of selfless love, in which the beauty of the vocal line conveys balance and emotional depth.

🔹 S. Arnita - Preludio A contemplative miniature, marked by a distinct lyricism and an almost transparent style of composition.

🔹 V. Bellini - Dolente immagine The beloved is no longer present, and the music becomes the space in which this absence is felt most keenly.

🔹 G. Donizetti - Una furtiva lagrima A single tear reveals the truth of love, transforming uncertainty into a quiet, profound joy.

🔹 F. P. Tosti - L’ultima canzone Farewell, memory, and the passing of time: a profoundly human sense of nostalgia.

🔹 N. Hankash / K. G. Gibran - Aateni al-Nay wa Ghanni The ney, a symbol of desire and spirituality, becomes a metaphor for the human soul, which seeks elevation and transcendence through sound.

Taken together, these pieces trace a continuous arc: from light to prayer, from love to loss, from introspection to revelation, culminating in a final song that unites different cultures. The programme embodies the essence of JERUS-IT ARTS: a meeting point between Jerusalem and Italy, where different musical languages converge to express a shared human experience.
